The Intrepid system will have its regularly scheduled Monday maintenance
period this coming week.

Maintenance starts: 9:00 a.m. US CDT on Monday, September 29, 2008
Expected end: 5:00 p.m. US CDT on Monday, September 29, 2008

During this time:

- there will be no access to the login nodes
- no jobs will be run on the system.

During this window, changes will be made to the user environment:

- GPFS upgrade
- network maintenance
- increase default block boot timeout
- Cobalt upgrade (changes detailed below)

During this maintenance period, Cobalt on Intrepid will be upgraded to
match the version currently running on Surveyor. The new version of
Cobalt includes the following changes:

- (c)qstat now checks both versions of (C)QSTAT_HEADER and
  (C)QSTAT_HEADER_FULL
- the COBALT_JOBID environment variable is now available to script mode
  jobs
- you can specify an alternate location for the .cobaltlog file using
  the --debuglog option to (c)qsub
- you can specify the umask for a job using the -u argument to (c)qsub
- qmove will now correctly run job submission filters
- script jobs will now set the cwd correctly
- partlist now shows when a partition is unavailable due to hardware in
  an error state
- (c)qstat output format will have a new shorter state field option,
similar to PBS's state field: "Q" for queued, "R" for running, and
  "H" for hold
- The long form states will be changed to add more specific state
information, eliminate spaces, and make the output narrower. Here are
the new state names and their definitions:
      dep_hold: dependency hold
      maxrun_hold: maxrunning hold
      user_hold: user hold
      starting: running - starting
      executing: running - executing
      killing: running - killing
      admin_hold: admin hold

Mail will be sent when the work has been completed and the machines are
again available for general use. Please send any comments or questions
to support at alcf.anl.gov

Thank you,
The ALCF Support Team
