***Welcome!***
Welcome to the first "ALCF Weekly Updates" email. Our goal with "ALCF Weekly Updates" is to convey the information you need in one convenient, weekly email. In addition to the ALCF Weekly Updates, please continue to watch your email for emergent messages from the ALCF. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at support at alcf.anl.gov.

***System Timezone Change***
On Monday, January 31, the timezone on most ALCF machines (Intrepid, Surveyor, Eureka, Gadzooks and related resources) changed to UTC (aka GMT or Universal Time). This change provides a universal reference for our users worldwide and will eliminate confusion during the biannual daylight time switch. Many user-facing tools can reflect your specified time zone. For details and instructions, please see:
https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/Timezone_Documentation#What_is_UTC.3F.

***Surveyor Queue Policy Changes***
Two scheduling policies will take effect on Surveyor's "default" queue during regular maintenance on February 7:
- Queue priority will change to uniform score accrual (first in/first out).
- The limit on number of node hours for all of a user's queued jobs will be 1024 (one rack hour).

The total is computed by summing (minutes requested/60* nodes requested) for all the user's queued jobs. If a job would exceed the limit, the user will see the following message on submission: "The limit of 1024 node hours per user in the 'default' has been reached and the job will not be queued."

The user may then submit a smaller job within the limit, or wait until a larger job finishes and re-submit the job. To view the Job Scheduling Policy, please go to: https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/Job_Scheduling_Policy.

***Regularly Scheduled Maintenance***
Routine maintenance is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CST (15:00 UTC) Monday, February 7. Please watch the notify list for projected and actual release times.

***Blue Gene eFixes Scheduled***
Blue Gene/P eFixes #38 and 39 will be installed during planned maintenance on February 7. To take advantage of the new features of the eFixes, you will need to relink and/or recompile your applications as appropriate. For eFix and driver status details, visit: https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/BGP_Driver_Information.
