*** Blue Gene/Q Prototype Tops Green500 ***
The Green500 has just released it's latest rankings of the most energy-efficient supercomputers in the world. Topping the list is the Blue Gene/Q Prototype 2--a prototype of the production machine the ALCF is scheduled to begin receiving in 2012. To view the entire June 2011 Green500 list, go to: http://www.green500.org/lists.php.

*** Run Jobs in a Script to Save Time, Boot Cost ***
Running jobs in a script can help save you booting cost, and get you through the queue faster. Specifically, if you want to run some 16K jobs that last about 20-30 minutes each, bundle them into a single 16K script job that lasts a few hours. It will get the jobs through the queue faster, and incur less charge. See https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/Running#Submitting_a_script for script job details, and email support at alcf.anl.gov if you have any questions about how to package your jobs as a script job.

*** Surveyor Space Quotas Planned - Delete/Move Unneeded Data ***
The /home filesystems on Surveyor and Intrepid are near capacity. Due to the chronic nature of home space issues on Surveyor, we are in the planning stages for implementing hard quotas. Delete unneeded data and move data that doesn't need to be immediately accessible out of /home. We'll even help you. Contact support at alcf.anl.gov.

*** Parallelize Your Code at SciDAC 2011 Tutorials Day, July 15 ***
In conjunction with the annual SciDAC conference (in Denver Colorado this year), the SciDAC Outreach Center has organized a full day of tutorials. You need to register for them separately at: https://outreach.scidac.gov/scidac2011/tutorials/. This year's tutorials include presentations on visualization packages, libraries and tools, as well as hadoop for scientific computing. While registration is required, attendance is free and open to all.

*** Extended Maintenance July 11-13 ***
From Monday, July 11, at 14:00 UTC, through Wednesday, July 13, at 22:00 UTC, all ALCF computing systems will be taken offline for electrical maintenance and storage subsystem updates. While no computing systems will be available during this maintenance, should it conclude early, you will receive notification via the "notify" mailing lists. If you have questions or concerns, please email support at alcf.anl.gov.
