*** Switch to Challenger Means Procedural Changes for Users ***
Once Challenger (the ALCF's new rack of Blue Gene/P) is online, the prod-devel queue on Intrepid will be retired and jobs formerly run there will be run on Challenger. To help smooth the transition to Challenger, please continue to watch for additional information and training opportunities. Challenger is expected to go online in August.

*** New Auto-deletion Policy for Temp Storage Systems ***
The /tmp and /scratch file systems are intended for temporary storage. Effective August 8, the ALCF will implement an automated process for removing files from the /tmp and /scratch directories on all login and data analytics processing nodes (i.e., Eureka and Gadzooks). This change is being made to improve the availability of resources for ongoing development.

* For login nodes (login#.intrepid, login#.surveyor, login#.eureka, login#.gadzooks):
 - /tmp: files will be deleted if they are more than 7 days old and after a reboot
 - /scratch: all files older than 15 days will be deleted

* For Eureka and Gadzooks data analytic nodes:
 - /tmp: all files will be deleted after job termination
 - /scratch: all files older than 15 days will be deleted

The file age limits may vary depending on systems resources, and as we tune the auto-delete process. If you have questions about this information, please contact support at alcf.anl.gov.
