*** Showcase Your Visualization at SciDAC - Submissions Due June 17 ***
The SciDAC 2011 Conference, the annual Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing Program, is July 10-14 in Denver. Organizers are soliciting visualizations from Office of Science efforts (SciDAC, INCITE, etc.) for the conference's annual Visualization Night. Submissions will be accepted through June 17. For details, go to: http://press.mcs.anl.gov/scidac2011/agenda/visualization-night/.

*** INCITE 2012 Call for Proposals Ends June 30 ***
The Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) program provides large allocations of computer time and resources for use in transformational advances in science and engineering. This year, 1.7 billion core hours will be awarded through a peer-reviewed process to researchers in academia, government, research organizations and industry with projects that can effectively use a significant portion (20 percent or more), of the program's HPC systems (at the ALCF and OLCF). Allocation requests can be from 1 to 3 years, and average awards will likely exceed 20 million processor hours. DOE sponsorship is not required, and international researchers are eligible. Proposals are due no later than June 30. For details, visit: http://hpc.science.doe.gov/.

*** Default Compiler Change ***
The default compiler has been changed on Intrepid and Surveyor to the April 2011 PTF. Please contact support at alcf.anl.gov with any concerns.

*** VASP on Intrepid ***
VASP 5.2, a package for performing ab-initio quantum-mechanical molecular dynamics (MD) using pseudopotentials and a plane wave basis set, is available for use on Intrepid for VASP 5.2 license holders. For information on obtaining VASP, and using VASP on Intrepid, please go to https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/VASP.

*** I/O Tuning Tip ***
For best performance on the GPFS filesystem /intrepid-fs0, don't open too many files in a single directory. Instead, spread the files across several directories to reduce metadata contention. See https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php/I_O_Tuning for other I/O tuning tips.

*** Environment Changes For Script Jobs on Surveyor are Live ***
A recent change to Cobalt has changed the environment that script mode jobs on Surveyor receive. Script jobs will start up with the submitting user's non-interactive login environment at the time the job is started. Users should check that the environment variables in their script-mode jobs are set to expected values. It should no longer be necessary to source your environment at the beginning of a script job on Surveyor. This change has not been installed on Intrepid yet. Please watch for further messages indicating when this change will go live on Intrepid. Please contact support at alcf.anl.gov if you have any questions about this change.
