*** Environment Changes for Script Jobs Now Live on Intrepid ***
A recent improvement to Cobalt simplifies the use of script jobs. Script jobs will now start up with the submitting user's non-interactive login environment at the time the job is started. Users should check that the environment variables in their script-mode jobs are set to expected values. It is no longer necessary to source your environment at the beginning of a script job on Intrepid. This upgrade went live on Intrepid October 17, and has been running on Surveyor since June. *** Challenger is Live for Prod-devel ***
Challenger (the ALCF's new rack of Blue Gene/P) is now online. Please begin using it immediately for prod-devel. There will be a transition period to allow users to familiarize themselves with Challenger, after which the prod-devel queue on Intrepid will be retired and all jobs formerly run there will be run on Challenger. To learn more about Challenger and to have your questions answered, join the ALCF User Call on October 27 (see "Important Dates"). *** /home Intrepid File System Changes Bring Improvements ***
The November 28 switch to the new /home file system on Intrepid brings several improvements, including a faster file system with more space and more resiliency to failure. Beginning next week, we will begin a re-sync of the new /home file system from the current one in the background. Once synchronization is verified, we will switch over on November 28.
