*** US Labor Day Moves Regular Maintenance to Tuesday ***
Due to the Labor Day holiday, the next regularly scheduled maintenance period for Surveyor/Gadzooks, and Intrepid/Eureka will occur Tuesday, September 6. Maintenance will start at 14:00 UTC. Users will be notified via the notify e-mail lists when the system is available for use once maintenance concludes. Please contact us with any questions at support at alcf.anl.gov.

*** Register Now for "Getting Started" at the ALCF: October 4 & 5 ***
The Getting Started workshop at the ALCF provides new users with key information on services and resources, technical details of the Blue Gene/P, as well as hands-on assistance in porting and tuning applications. ALCF computational scientists and performance engineers will provide presentations and guided hands-on exercises. Topics covered will include Blue Gene/P architecture, ALCF infrastructure, debugging on the Blue Gene, and visualization systems and services. To register or for additional information, go to: http://press.mcs.anl.gov/gs11fall/.

*** IBM eFixes to be Installed on Surveyor ***
During Tuesday's maintenance, we will install IBM Blue Gene/P eFixes 45 and 46 on Surveyor, thus providing fixes to MPI and ciod-related issues, specifically: MPI_LONG_LONG being "cast" as an unsigned long long in reduce/all reduce before going to the DCMF level; problems with MPI_BOTTOM in one-sided communication using derived datatypes; Constant in MPI dataloop too small for complicated derived datatype. If you have experienced any of these issues, please recompile or relink your codes as appropriate. These fixes are scheduled to be installed on Intrepid during the following regular maintenance. For details, please see the BG/P driver information wiki page at: https://wiki.alcf.anl.gov/index.php?title=BGP_Driver_Information

*** Showcase Your Visualization Movies in the Argonne Booth at SC11 ***
The technical computing community's premier conference, SC11, will be held in Seattle, November 12-18 (see "Important Dates" below). If you are interested in having your project's visualization movies featured, please contact Chel Heinzel for submission details at chel at alcf.anl.gov. Visualization submissions are due October 7.

*** 2012 ALCC Call for Proposals Opens ***
The ASCR Leadership Computing Challenge (ALCC) allocates up to 30 percent of the computational resources at the DOE Leadership Computing Facilities. Accepted projects are directly related to the DOE's energy mission, national emergency, or for broadening the community of researchers capable of using leadership computing resources. Awards are based on a peer review for scientific merit and computational readiness. Proposals are due by February 14, 2012. For information, visit: http://www.alcf.anl.gov/news/detail.php?id=605.
