[surveyor-notify] ALCF Weekly Updates - September 29

ALCF User Services support at alcf.anl.gov
Thu Sep 29 16:10:34 CDT 2011

*** Regular Maintenance Monday: October 3 ***
Routine maintenance kicks off at 9 a.m. CDT (14:00 UTC) on Monday, October 3, for Intrepid, Eureka, Surveyor and Gazooks. The systems will be unavailable during maintenance. Please watch the "notify" lists for projected and actual release times.

*** Environment Changes For Script Jobs are Coming Soon to Intrepid ***
An upcoming change to Cobalt will change the environment that script mode jobs on Intrepid receive. Script jobs will start up with the submitting user's non-interactive login environment at the time the job is started. Once the change is live, users should check that the environment variables in their script-mode jobs are set to expected values and it should no longer be necessary to source your environment at the beginning of a script job on Intrepid. This change is expected to go live on Intrepid on October 17. These changes are already live on Surveyor, if you wish to test your scripts. Please contact support at alcf.anl.gov if you have any questions about this change.

*** UPDATE: Intrepid Users, Please Hold on Moving Data to New Directories ***
Due to some system issues, Intrepid users should not move their data to the new directory structure at this time. We will notify users when these issues are resolved. If you have any problems or questions, please contact support at alcf.anl.gov.

*** Register Now for "Getting Started" at the ALCF: October 4 & 5 ***
Want to learn technical details of the Blue Gene/P and get hands-on assistance in porting and tuning your applications? Plan to attend the Getting Started workshop at the ALCF on October 4 & 5. ALCF computational scientists and performance engineers will provide presentations and guided hands-on exercises. Topics will include Blue Gene/P architecture, ALCF infrastructure, debugging on the Blue Gene, and visualization systems and services. To register or for additional information, go to: http://workshops.alcf.anl.gov/gs11fall/.
