The Intrepid system will have its regularly scheduled Monday maintenance
period this coming week.

Maintenance starts: 9:00 a.m. US CDT on Monday, October 6, 2008
Expected end: 5:00 p.m. US CDT on Monday, October 6, 2008

During this time:

- there will be no access to the login nodes
- no jobs will be run on the system.

During this window, changes will be made to the user environment:

- network firmware upgrades
- installation of job submission filters that will provide warning
messages if a job is submitted that would not be able to run as of
  Oct. 27, 2008 (see e-mail from Jonathon Anderson dated Oct. 2, 2008)
- eFix installations to address the following issues:
    - eFix 15: adds support for partial frees when using munmap and
contains a fix to correctly process thread stepping
    - eFix 16: issue with booting and freeing blocks
    - eFix 17: dbg_getmemory problem: when a debugger requests large
amounts of memory containing trap instructions, a new request of
the memory would have an invalid byte being returned after the
trap instruction, which could cause the instruction stream to be
      invalid after the trap instruction

Mail will be sent when the work has been completed and the machines are
again available for general use. Please send any comments or questions
to support at alcf.anl.gov

Thank you,
The ALCF Support Team
