*** ALCF's Winter Workshop January 23-26, 2012--Register Today! ***
Whether you’re a new ALCF user, a seasoned pro, or somewhere in between, the ALCF’s 2012 Winter Workshop has something for users of all experience levels. Plus, based on user feedback, this year’s workshop will feature agenda topics you pick when you register. Beginning users, join us for Day 1, an ALCF primer that covers all the basics you need to know to get started on our systems. Then, stay for Days 2-4 where you'll be joined by users of all levels for a dynamic workshop that will cover timely topics of interest to all users. *** Possible Change to Reservation Job Charges ***
Currently, ALCF charges users in a reservation for the jobs they run, with no charge for idle time within the reservation. We are exploring a change to this policy to charge projects for the reserved partition for the duration of the reservation, regardless of whether jobs are running or not. We will notify users of any changes to the current policy well in advance of their implementation. If you have feedback or suggestions, please send them to info at alcf.anl.gov

*** New XL Compilers Available (XL C/++ version 09.00.0000.0013 & XL Fortran Version 11.01.0000.0013) ***
A new release of the IBM XL compilers is now available for testing (@ibm-compilers-dec2011). The current defaults are unchanged (Surveyor @ibm-compilers-aug2011 and Intrepid @ibm-compilers-apr2011). As previously announced, Intrepid's default will be updated to @ibm-compilers-aug2011 on January 9, 2012. *** New DDT Debugger Available (DDT v3.1-20190) ***
Allinea DDT 3.1 is now available on Intrepid, Challenger, and Surveyor. This update includes a number of scalability enhancements and bug fixes. The default software key (+ddt) now provides this version; alternate keys may be used to choose a specific version. For instructions on using DDT, go to

*** System and Support Availability During Holiday Lab Closure ***
Argonne will be closed from Friday, December 23, 2011, through Monday, January 2, 2012, and will reopen Tuesday, January 3, 2012. All ALCF systems will be online and accessible during the closure, but no support will be available. Regular maintenance will be suspended until after the break. ALCF staff will monitor system status, but will make limited repairs during the closure. Non-critical tickets submitted during the closure will be addressed when the lab reopens. Please contact support at alcf.anl.gov with any questions or concerns.
