*** Call for Position Papers: Operating System and Runtime Software for Exascale Systems ***
New approaches are needed to address research challenges on exascale systems. The Exascale Operating Systems and Runtime (OS/R) Technical Council (TC) has been convened by the DOE's Office of Science and National Nuclear Security Administration to develop a research agenda and a plan to address these challenges. This activity will result in a report (published in November) describing research priorities and the process used to develop this plan. To this end, we are soliciting community input in the form of position papers that describe novel research approaches for exascale OS/R. Submissions will be made public via the OS/R TC website and portions may be included in the final report. Selected contributors will be invited to participate in a fall workshop in Washington, DC. *** User Tip: MPI-2 One-Sided Programs Deadlock ***
There is a limitation in the MPI library that only affects programs using MPI-2 one-sided communication in vn mode. If MPI collectives are intermingled with the one-sided communication, an optimization in the collective may cause deadlock on the other communication. To avoid this, you must disable the optimized tree collectives via the environment setting DCMF_COLLECTIVES=NOTREE. Alternatively, MPI_Barrier() calls may be inserted to ensure that all one-sided synchronization is complete prior to a collective. *** /intrepid-fs0 at Critical Capacity ***
The /intrepid-fs0 filesystem, used by Intrepid, Challenger, and Eureka, is at critical capacity. Please remove any unneeded data, or transfer it offsite or to tape archive (and then delete it). Keep in mind that performance suffers when the filesystem is very full, and jobs cannot run if the filesystem fills completely. Please contact support at alcf.anl.gov for help transferring or archiving data.
