Hmm.. That was from the tarballs we had gotten earlier. In the GIT 
source things seem to be better, though not exactly the same way we 
internally lay it out at Argonne.

May I suggest having separately configurable packages for each module. 
E.g., DCMF configuration should create a bunch of libraries and header 
files that are placed in some place (prefix), while MPICH2 configuration 
should be able to give a --with-dcmf option specify which DCMF to use 
(the above prefix for example). We already do this internally, but if 
it's in the tree itself, it'll be easier to update to the latest versions.
